DIY Powder Laundry Detergent

DIY Powder Laundry Detergent

This is Option 2 of 4 natural DIY laundry detergent options that we will be presenting for you.  This recipe is my favorite powder laundry detergent recipe.

It uses the same ingredients as the liquid laundry soap, but it does not have water in it.  You don't have to melt soap, so it easier and less messy to make.

Ingredients You Need To Make Detergent

DIY Powder Laundry Detergent Recipe

  • 1 Bar Fels Naptha or 1/2 bar of Zote (found in laundry aisle of your local grocery or department store)
  • 2 cups Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
  • 2 cups Borax
  • Essential Oil of Choice for Scent (this is optional) - I prefer a Citrus blend, but lots prefer Four Thieves because it is also known for cleaning purposes.  (This is the version of this oil blend that I buy at a great price.) for their disinfectant, antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial and antifungal properties.

Instructions:  Grate a bar of Fels Naptha or 1/2 a bar of Zote.  My preference is Fels Naptha.  It's known for it's stain removing abilities.  If you use Zote, and you are sensitive to artificial fragrances, use the unscented version, which is white.  Since Zote is twice the size (14.1 oz) of Fels Naptha, you can grate half of the bar for your recipe which saves money.

Mix the grated soap with the other two ingredients in a mixing bowl, add essential oils if desired, then use a whisk to mix thoroughly, and store in airtight container.

Usage Instructions:  Use 1 Tbsp of this laundry detergent per load or 2 Tbsp for especially dirty loads of laundry.  It works great!!  I was pleased with it.

It is a very powerfully cleansing detergent, considering the small amount of the detergent needed for washing one load.  But it DOES WORK, and it works very well.

It will also smell whichever way you like if you scent it with your favorite blend of essential oils.  Citrus blend is my personal favorite.  The citrus essential oils are all have antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial properties.  So they are very help with getting laundry clean, not to mention the scent is amazing, and it has uplifting and energizing aromatherapy properties as well.

DIY Eye Makeup Remover

DIY EYE MAKEUP REMOVER

By:  Angelia Duenas
October 12, 2021

This the first post of several upcoming posts, and by the time I am done, you will have a simple way to make every facial skincare product you need.

You will eventually have your own product line made by "YOU" once all of this series on diy skincare products is complete.  Wouldn't it be pretty exciting to make your own skin care line?

The purpose of this series on DIY Facial Skincare products is to help you save money and be healthier due to the use of only natural ingredients.  Help make your budget stretch further.

The most important reason to make your own skincare products is to eliminate dangerous chemicals, preservatives and other harmful ingredients from your skincare routine.  This makes everything safer for your health.

Most store bought skincare products and even some of the so-called "natural products" in the stores, aren't always natural.   These products may have "some" natural ingredients in them, but there are usually some ingredients in them that are not natural, but actually harmful.

READ THE LABEL TO CHECK THE INGREDIENTS LIST REQUIRED BY THE FDA.  Be aware also that the ingredients are listed in order by the amount of each ingredient in the product.  The first ingredient in the list has the largest amount used in this product.  Knowing to read the ingredient list on product labels is the most important lesson I can teach anyone.

My rule of thumb is, "If you cannot pronounce the ingredient name, you probably shouldn't use it".  Definitely stay away from parabens, sulfates, pthlates, & other well-known harmful ingredients.

DIY Eye Makeup Remover

I personally, make and sell all-natural natural eye-makeup remover, which is not quite as easy to make, but it is 100% natural and handmade, and I will provide you with this alternative below this post, if you don't want to make your own.

Simply Pure4You also makes a fabulous "Lash Lengthening Eye Makeup Remover", with incredible luxurious oils which are great for the delicate skin around your eye area, helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles, moisturizes the eye area, and even helps your lashes grow, not over night, but within 90 days or less, you will start to see a difference, maybe less.

If you use the product every night to remove your eye makeup, as directed, and really massage it into the base of your lashes, so it gets into the hair follicles of your lashes, it will help your eyelashes grow faster naturally.  Soon you will never need those fake eyelashes from the store again.

Our main purpose today is to hurry up and get you using a 100% natural product, instead of the typical store bought, chemical and preservative filled eye makeup removers.

DIY Eye Makeup Remover
  1. Use a 1/2 oz. jar if you have one available, or you could use 1 ounce jar, and just fill it halfway.  It will last a very LONG time.  I first made my own eye makeup remover with this exact recipe in a 2 ounce jar, and it took over a year to use it all.
  2. I reuse old containers I already have at home and wash them thoroughly, after they have soaked in hot water, bleach and a squirt of blue Dawn.  There is usually always a way to repurpose old jars or containers around your house.
  3. Coconut Oil (1/2 ounce) - You should never buy anything but Organic Virgin (or Extra Virgin, which is really no different than Virgin) Coconut Oil, and I have a picture of two of the brands which I think are fabulous.  (NOTE:  Babbassu Oil may be substituted for coconut oil in any of these recipes.  It's from the same family as Coconut Oil, but it has even more medicinal properties and other benefits to help you with your skin.  It is more costly and not as readily available at your local department store.)
  4. NEVER BUY "REFINED" COCONUT OIL FOR SKIN OR HAIR CARE PURPOSES BECAUSE ALL THE SKIN AND HAIR CARE BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL HAVE BEEN REFINED RIGHT OUT OF THE COCONUT OIL!  You always want to buy "UNREFINED VIRGIN COCONUT OIL" because it has all the health benefits still in the coconut oil that are so great for your skin. Click here to buy the Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil I like.
  1. Vitamin E Oil (1/4 to 1/8 tsp) - Pure oil, not the diluted versions that have other types of oils mixed with pure vitamin e oil.  You have to really watch for this possibility, because it is way more common than you probably know.  Usually you can tell oil the thickness of the oil, because "true" Vitamin E Oil is extremely thick and a little sticky, and it won't slosh back and forth quickly inside the bottle.  The real oil is usually $5 to $10 depending on where you find the oil, which is very expensive, anywhere from $5 to $10 per ounce (possibly for 2 ounces if you catch a great price deal), but it will last for a very long time.  Also, it usually comes in small bottles (1 to 2 ounces).  Click here to order a bottle of Vitamin E capsules, which are a great way to add this item to your recipes as a natural preservative.  The capsules are so convenient and perfect to use in many all natural skincare product recipes, because they contain the perfect amount to use as a natural preservative in any product you make.

Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil

Directions:

Melt the coconut oil, but not in the microwave, or it loses all it's skin nourishing benefits.  Put it in a small, but not too small) glass mixing bowl into a small bowler (a 1 quart), add about an 1" of water. Turn the heat on the stovetop on about a 2 or 3 on electric stoves or a gas stove low to medium until the coconut oil is completely melted.

Then remove it from the heat, take the glass bowl out using hot pads, and sit it on something the hot bowl won't damage.  Mix in your tiny bit of vitamin e oil, still very well, then pour into your 1/2 ounce container, and sit it in the refrigerator to solidify.

The coconut oil in this eye makeup remover is extremely moisturizing, and one interesting fact is that coconut oil naturally has a 4 to 6 SPF.  The vitamin e oil in this product is also good for moisturizing the skin around the eye area.  Both ingredients will help with reduce the current signs of aging and prevent future signs of aging.

This eye makeup remover will last a VERY long time.  We hope you enjoyed making this very easy project.  Next, we'll be making a Face Cleanser.  Make sure you have unrefined virgin coconut oil, baking soda, organic honey, "REAL" honey made in the area in which you live, and this fact pertains to the benefits provided by the honey.

We normally use three essential oils based on skin type, but there are three that are beneficial to every skin type, and those are the three oils we'll be using.

The essentials oils are not required to make this, if you don't have any essential oils yet, but they are very beneficial to your skin.  I will explain the purpose of each of the oils in the post coming up soon.

If you can't find an organic honey made in your area, but you have real honey, not cheap honey that isn't really even honey, then that is just fine to use for now.

For those of you who do not want to invest in all the materials needed to make your own DIY recipes, or prefer something a little more beneficial for your skin in different ways.  Check out this fabulous lash lengthening eye makeup remover from Simply Pure4You's shop.  Click on the link below this picture to go directly to our Facebook page to check out the ordering instructions, and read the description to see all the wonderful oils in this eye makeup remover, and the benefits of these ingredients.

DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

DIY Liquid Laundry Soap

By:  Angelia Duenas
November 22, 2021

Tide, Gain and many other big name store brand laundry detergents are not inexpensive at all.  In fact, unless you find a really good sale, they can be quite expensive.  The purpose of this blog, is to show you how to make your own natural cleaning products for your home, which will be so much better for your family's health and cheaper on your family's budget.

Making your own cleaning products most certainly will help your family's health more than anything else, due to the fact that there are no artificial fragrances in them, or chemical ingredients you cannot pronounce.  A lot of the common ingredients in store bought products may possibly have horrible side effects, ranging from allergic reactions to infertility, and even birth defects.

Eventually, you will have all the recipes you may ever need to make almost every household product you may need for almost every purpose imagineable that you require to clean and maintain your home, yard and more.  We will take our journey one DIY recipe at a time.  It can get expensive switching your lifestyle to 100% natural all at once.

This is the recipe for liquid laundry detergent that I feel is most economical, and it still does a good job of cleaning your laundry.  It is so much less expensive than most store bought detergents, and it doesn't have the chemicals in it that could possibly harm you or your family members and/or cause allergic reactions.

This recipe makes five gallons of liquid laundry soap that will wash 48 loads per gallon.  That equals a total of 240 loads of laundry for 5 gallons of liquid laundry detergent.

You will still have plenty of Super Washing Soda and Borax left to make a few more batches.  You should only have to buy the first ingredient in the ingredient list the second time you make this recipe.  JUST THINK OF ALL THE MONEY YOU WON'T BE SPENDING ON TIDE OR GAIN EVER AGAIN!!

A great idea for saving money is to start a savings account, and put the difference between the same quantity of your previous brand of store bought cleaning products and your new diy cleaning products into a fund for something you really want or need.  Maybe you want a much needed vacation or a new piece of furniture you've been wanting, but you couldn't afford it.  Wouldn't that be a great way to show off your savings?

This is just the first option of the four I am writing about as a replacement for your store bought laundry detergent, Option #1 - Liquid Laundry Soap.  You will be presented with three other detergent options, a Powder Laundry Soap (which I have also used many times and like), a Tablet Laundry Soap (which I have also used, and it works very well too), and lastly, Soap Nuts which you may never have heard of, but some of you may.

Soap Nuts are unique and different from anything ever used in my home growing up, but they are a great way to wash your laundry and 100% natural as well.  I will explain how they work to clean your laundry, how to use them, and the cheapest way to purchase them, and from whom to purchase them.

These will be three other DIY all-natural natural options for you to choose from as your new "natural" laundry soap.  Whichever method works best for you is what you should choose.  They all work well, but it is up to you about as to what type of laundry soap you like best.

Zote Soap Bar
This bar is 14.1 ozs, & Fels Naptha
is 5.8 ozs., so if you use Zote,
you will have to use just part of the bar.

DIY Liquid Laundry Soap Recipe (Option #1)

This recipe makes 5 gallons of detergent, and each gallon will wash 48 loads of laundry, if you use the recommended amount of 1/3 cup per load.  You can save water or milk jugs to put your detergent into to save even more money.
  • 1 Bar Fels Naptha Soap or Zote Soap (Both are found in the laundry section of your grocery or department store, and both of these soaps are usually $1.00 each plus tax, no matter which brand you choose.)
  • 1-1/2 cups Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, not "baking soda" (A box is $4.16 at my local store in the laundry section, a 55 oz box)
  • 3/4 cup Borax (Box is $4.28 at my local store in the laundry section, a 65 oz box)
  • Water (Should get distilled water or boil water to keep bacteria out of your detergent)
  • Essential Oil(s) of Your Choice -  I prefer to use a citrus scent or a citrus blend of orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit using equal drops of each essential oil, or you can try the Thieves Essential Oil Blend because of its antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, which makes either blend a perfect addition to help your clothes come out clean and smelling great as well.
  • With all of the properties the recommended essential oils I mentioned have, no germs, bacteria, viruses, fungi, or microbes will survive the wash cycle.)  ( This is a good basic set of 12 essential oils to start this DIY journey with for $42.99, which is only $3.58 per bottle, and that's an excellent price for good oils)
  • 5 - 1 Gallon Milk Jugs or Any Other Type of Gallon Jugs
  • Funnel

Picture of Ingredients Listed in Recipe

Save water jugs, juice jugs, whatever gallon jugs that come your way, and use them for lots of purposes like this one.  You also can cut out the top quarter of  milk jug leaving the handle side for carrying purposes and use them to start plants in because they make great planters.  They would work for a single plant by itself probably permanently.  You can poke holes in the bottom of the jug for excess water to run off, and not keep the soil soaked

Start out by filling each of the gallon jugs halfway with water (I recommend either using boiled water or distilled water, so there is no bacteria growth in your liquid detergent, but you can use tap water if you prefer.)  Put 10 to 20 drops of essential oils in each jug depending on how strong you want the scent.

The next step will be to grate the bar of Fels Naptha or Zote soap.  I like to use my Ninja, but you can use a food processor or hand grater as well.  Put the soap shavings in a large 4-quart or larger boiler or stock pot with 8 cups of water.

Warm the soap and water on medium heat until the soap completely dissolves.  If it begins to boils, turn the heat down a little bit.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO LET THIS BOIL!

The gel that forms during this part of the process is kind of milky, and you have to really check to see if the soap shavings are melted completely.  Once the soap is melted all the way remove it from the heat.

Now add the next two ingredients, the Super Washing Soda and the Borax.  Add this mixture to two more gallons of water and mix well.

With your funnel, fill each gallon jug the rest of the way with the mixture of water and melted soap shavings to the top of each of the containers.

Replace the cap to the jug and shake it very well to mix the ingredients together properly.

DIRECTIONS FOR WASHING:  Shake the gallon jug each time you use it, then add 1/3 cup of the liquid detergent to your washing machine once the water is running.

Make sure you label your containers with a Sharpie, or use some sort of sticker type label that you can write on and stick that on the jug.  Cover the label with regular invisible tape or clear package tape, so if liquid or dirt gets on the label, it won't ruin it, and make the writing unreadable.  This way, you can reuse the jugs for other purposes if needed.
